Exemplars

Here are a couple of sites that look very nice, that we could consider copying ideas from:

Requirements

Here are things that we want, or might potentially want, on our site.

  • About - what is JATS4R? Participating organizations, etc.
  • Recommendations - users need quick access to these
  • Examples - even better than reading recommendations, would be access to "best practices" examples, indexed by topic, and xml element and attribute names.
  • Validator - ditto
  • Learning resources - this would be an area of the site dedicated to helping groups get up and running with JATS more easily. See the jats-admin mailing list topic, "Potential topics for XML learning".
    • Question: what form should these take? Blog? How-to articles?
  • Blog? News?
  • Contact - Info about how to contact us
  • Get involved

I'd [Chris Maloney] suggest that each one of these be associated with a very short name, for quick access from the home page. For instance, in our existing home page, there is a list of topics in the left column -- but these names are too long. One of the things I like about Todo is that the list is horizontal (scales well to mobile), and the names are very short and sweet: "Blog", "About", "Join", etc.
