Feature request: variable expansion inside backticks

can you please add support for variable expansion inside backticks?

I have a router with several interfaces, and would like to assign the network interface names (e.g. eth0) to variables and then get address, routes etc. for each interface using bactick mechanism. Now I have the interface names hard-coded in each backtick command, but it would be a lot better if I could use the variable expansion inside bacticks.
