Classification of consumption categories within year triplets is very consistent, among year triplets - not necessarily. TODOs:
Check units 2009 vs 2015 just in case
Are there new activities that should be added?
Are the codes consistent?
When updating consumption database, some activities need to be updated, eg to the most recent prices for electricity, or to the newest microcensus data for public transport (see Table D9 in the Appendix of the thesis). TODO update accordingly
There’s a lot of very useful info in the consumption cockpit file
Units:
m codes are taken whenever possible from habe and have non-monetary units
generally units should be taken from either HABE Datenbeschreibung.xlsx or from the first input activity in es8b01452_si_002.xlsx. But sometimes they would still be incorrect and there’s no way in knowing which ones, unless you go through them manually and check comments in the cockpit.xlsx.
Example 1 - desktop computer: refers to possession of that computer and not it’s purchase, so the input activities to this process are adjusted to its lifetime which is 4 years. The correct unit that should be in the consumption database is then not just “unit”, but rather “possession for 1 year (out of 4)”
Example 2 - eggs: unit should be 1 CHF
Good news: the units between consumption database and HABE are consistent with each other, so computations would still be correct, but technically the units should be checked and adjusted
Andi’s data is per 1 year, HABE is per month
