Following up on #17, I can see a use case for permitting multiple OSs for downstream tools to build on.
UV, for instance, has both Debian and alpine bases: https://docs.astral.sh/uv/guides/integration/docker/#available-images
Similarly, it could simplify the process for downstream users to target multiple architectures if we provide those.
I do not know how to do this at this point, but if there's agreement in principle, then we could research how difficult it would be.
