latest steam beta client indicates:

Improved automatic discovery of HTTP proxies on some types of restrictive networks, which will allow users on those networks to download game content and other HTTP content while using the Steam client

https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta#announcements

Not sure what we have to block to fake a "restrictive network" and get the proxy to be used. Guessing this means they are more wpad.dat compliant and will use a squid cache for steam/store/profile content?

Anyone know anymore about this? I'm going to keep an eye on my squid logs and see if it's more active for content that used to be https..
