Something about the codebase is making saturated images when the input data is originally 16-bit.

What we want:

To be able to run 16-bit images through the entire workflow
To be able to keep the intensity scale differences between images (no normalization??)
To be able to run an arbitrary number of channels through the entire workflow (not 1 or 3)
