Can't ping or remote to local and remote sites #12347

WSL Version

2.3.26.0

Are you using WSL 1 or WSL 2?

Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS

Repro Steps

Enabled all prerequisites to install WSL.
Enabled WSL from program features.
Downloaded Ubuntu from Windows Store.
Pinged google.com
SSH to a local resource on 192.168.1.2

Expected Behavior

Ability to SSH and ping to any resources in local and remote networks.

Actual Behavior

In Windows Terminal, running Ubuntu shell.
Cannot ping any website or local resources.
I haven't done any network changes and never had an issue using WSL and linux to connect.

I have an internet connection. I can ping and access local resources using Terminal.

Using Git shell, I'm able to ping and connect to local resources:

Download and execute collect-wsl-logs.ps1 in an administrative powershell prompt:

Invoke-WebRequest -UseBasicParsing "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/microsoft/WSL/master/diagnostics/collect-wsl-logs.ps1" -OutFile collect-wsl-logs.ps1
Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process -Force
.\collect-wsl-logs.ps1

The script will output the path of the log file once done.

If this is a networking issue, please use collect-networking-logs.ps1, following the instructions here

Once completed please upload the output files to this Github issue.
