Hi, Thank you for the great project.

We (a few university students) are planning to translate this wonderful project into Japanese and make it known to a wider audience.

We are currently working on the translation, may we send this translation as a pull request here? Or should we do our own hosting?

We would like to follow the original owners wishes. We would appreciate your input. Thank you very much.

Great to see someone keen on translating this book into Japanese!

I think setting up a dedicated Japanese site on your fork and then submitting a PR to add a link to your site in the README and language section of this main repository would be a good approach.

Since I don't understand Japanese, I won't be able to help review Japanese PRs. In fact, it may even slow down the progress of your Japanese content updates.
Also, the book is currently in maintenance mode. I won't be putting a lot of effort into it until the official solution for the flakes experimental feature is clear.

I believe that by using a complete URI such as https://<domain>/ja for the locales.ja.link in both the main repository and your fork, we can ensure that selecting Japanese will redirect users to your dedicated Japanese website, while choosing English/Chinese will guide them back to https://nixos-and-flakes.thiscute.world.

We are very happy that you are pleased with our translation.

Now let us host our own independent site and link to each other in our respective languages.

We have one question about working as an independent project. Should we do the translations under the docs/en/ directory and keep the original files? Or can I edit directly under docs? Currently we are adopting the former, in this case our domain will also host the English and Chinese versions, but the merging process will be easier.

I don’t have a personal preference on this matter. I think you can either keep the original files as they are now or delete them.

Currently we are adopting the former, in this case our domain will also host the English and Chinese versions, but the merging process will be easier.

I have just refactored config.ts and folder structure. Now you can add some configuration in docs/.vitepress/config/index.ts to make vitepress ignore all en/zh content during the build process, an example is here:

// For forks in other languages, here is an example of how to add a new locale:
// rewrites: {
// "ja/:rest*": ":rest*",
// },
// // Exclude the original language's markdown files when build dist
// // NOTE: You can still preview the original language's pages in dev mode
// srcExclude: ['zh/**/*.md', 'en/**/*.md'],
// locales: {
// // Your language's root configuration
// root: {
// label: 'Japanese',
// ...ja,
// },
//
// // Languages maintained by the original author
// en: {
// label: 'English',
// link: "https://nixos-and-flakes.thiscute.world/",
// },
// zh: {
// label: '简体中文',
// link: "https://nixos-and-flakes.thiscute.world/zh/",
// },
// },

Thank you for making the changes for the translation project.

We are merging these changes as we work through the translation process.

The Japanese translation project will be hosted at the following URL.

https://nixos-and-flakes-ja.hayao0819.com/

When the majority of the translations are complete, may I create a pull request to add a link to Japanese in this repository?
