No sound because Master and Headphone audio volumes are Mute on startup #23

No sound comes out of my laptop speakers. By installing alsa-utils and running alsamixer, this turns out to be beause the Master and Headphone controls are both Muted. Master volume is at 75% and Headphone volume at 0. Unmuting them both makes audio output on the the headphone jack work fine.
