GXP: 3D Mouse Setup

Trent Hare edited this page Apr 13, 2022 · 1 revision

For GXP our 3D mice will need to be setup by the user. If the mouse will not move then these settings can be pushed in to the "common" settings if we wish to keep them the same across users.

Note: we have had issues using the latest 4.x USB drivers. To get all 3D mice (LHS_USB_TOPOMOUSE and STEALTH_Z_MOUSE) we needed to install the older 3.x driver.

We have 3 mice styles:

  • LHS_USB_TOPOMOUSE - laser
  • STEALTH_Z_MOUSE - laser
  • LHS_TOPOMOUSE (COM1 or COM3) - older ball-mice, just try both COM1 or COM3 until it works

After the setup you will see the recommended functions to customize to buttons. Todo: as a group we can converge on recommended mappings and define them below.

SETUP Leica Topomouse

  1. Connect the Leica Topomouse to the computer.

Windows automatically detects a USB device. 2. From the Workspace Manager, select the pull-down menu View 3. Select Preferences 4. Select Multiport 5. Select Input Controls 6. In the text field Trackball type, enter LHS_USB_TOPOMOUSE or LHS_TOPOMOUSE 7. For LHS_TOPOMOUSE only --- In the text field Trackball Device, enter COM1 or COM3 8. (0.2 to 1 seems good) In the text field for Trackball X, enter the appropriate speed values 9. (0.2 to 1 seems good) In the text field for Trackball Y, enter the appropriate speed values 10. (0.2 10 1 seems good) for Z 11. Select OK

  4. From the section Commands, select Mouse - left button click

Certain buttons are preassigned for the command. 5. (Optional) In the text field, Press a New Sequence, select a button on the 3-D device The device button text displays. 6. From the section Categories, select Multiport 7. From the section Commands, verify button sequences for:

  • Trackball Clutch
  • Zoom In
  • Zoom Out
  • Toggle Cursor Mode - Fixed/Image
  • Snap Stereo Cursor to Ground
  1. Select OK

Note there are plenty of other functions to map with the remaining buttons.

User settings Once your mouse is setup you can easily share these settings. With SOCET GXP v4.2, the key mappings are stored in: C:\Users<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\gxp\sgxp\Preferences<UserName>_hotkeys_4_2_0.xml So you should be able to take a good version and copy/rename it to each user’s Preference directory.
