Welcome to the Dimmer's Wiki!

Dimmer: Your Music🎶, Your Stats📊, Your Way🪟🤖⌚.

In a world saturated with streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music, and powerful offline players like AIMP and VLC, Dimmer carves its own unique path.

How you listen to music is personal, and sometimes, you want more than just playback. You want insight into your listening habits, across all your devices.

  • Dimmer is a hybrid music player designed for those who cherish their local music libraries but crave the data and insights often associated with online platforms.

Imagine the rich statistics and visualizations you love from services like Last.fm, but directly integrated into your music player – and completely free.

What Makes Dimmer Different?

  • Your Personal Music Data Hub: Dive deep into your listening habits with built-in statistics, graphs, and charts, mirroring the depth of platforms like Last.fm, but living right within Dimmer. No need for external websites or subscriptions - It's all free..

  • Truly Multi-Platform: Enjoy your music and your data seamlessly across your Windows PC, Android phones and tablets, and even your smartwatches*. Dimmer is designed to be where you are.

  • Building a Social Experience (Coming Soon!): I hope to cook up something special on the social front. Stay tuned for exciting updates that will let you connect with music lovers in new ways. 🫂

  • Your Data, Your Control: I believe in minimal data collection. Dimmer focuses on providing you with tools and insights, and as such, you use Dimmer 100% Offline (That's literally its aim either way!). Classic backup and restore features ensure your data is always safe. This is optional as well! I added this ONLY because It makes sense for me, perhaps it would be anyone else!

  • Seamless Sync and More: Future-proof your listening with upcoming support for synced lyrics, metadata, cover art, and other tag information.

Plus, imagine being able to play any song from your personal library, regardless of the device it's stored on. That's the future of Dimmer.

What Dimmer is NOT:

  • A Streaming Service: Dimmer is not designed to replace Spotify, Apple Music, or Deezer. It focuses on playing the music you own and have stored locally on your devices. However you got the does not concern Dimmer either.

What Dimmer Will Be:

  • More to Show, More to Come (though I've dropped enough hints)! I will constantly be evolving and I'm always either for feedback !. Opened to all suggestions and excited to shape the future of Dimmer with you.

Why No Mention of Apple Devices At All?

  • If you wonder this then you likely have an Apple Device. So you at least now how genuinely hard it is to do the little things on Apple. And for someone used to a much simpler way "easy" life, I could not power through Any Apple Device.

  • Dimmer is up and running on Mac OS on device I could test, but I just couldn't move forward. More here

BUT !

If anyone has the time, Patience, A Mac and wants to contribute on a Mac Port; I'd be more than happy to guide. The way I structured the project, Anyone should easily piece together (perhaps !), so I'd just be about setting up AV Player library and handling all playback states (all defined too).
