## Changing to a Different Server
To switch to a different server type (e.g. one with more CPU cores, or with different team access), you first need to shutdown your existing server. To do this, select <span style="font-variant:small-caps;">file › hub control panel</span> from the menu bar and then click the <span style="font-variant:small-caps;">stop my server</span> button. Then, you can click the <span style="font-variant:small-caps;">start my server</span> button to launch a server of your choice.

Note: when you're finished with work, you should also stop your server. This saves computational resources (and therefore expense) for STScI.

## A Detailed Description: How does this work?
Users curious about how Jupyter works (and the history and motivation for a computational notebook) should start by reading the ["What is Jupyter?"](https://docs.jupyter.org/en/latest/what_is_jupyter.html) page.

The virtual server that runs your personal instance of RSP will shut down after ~1 hour of inactivity; you can restart it the next time you access the platform.

You can start and stop your computing server any time from the JupyterHub control panel, which can be accessed from the top menu in JupyterLab (<span style="font-variant:small-caps;">file › Hub Control Panel</span>) or the "Home" tab from JupyterHub pages. You might use this to, for example, clear unwanted changes to your Python environment.
