Hi! My name is Rik and I've been addicted to building websites for over 2 decades.
In addition to building personal websites for my various interests (writing poetry, building worlds, writing science fiction books) I've also developed websites for a range of clients across a range of technologies - both frontend and backend. I've worked full time in the industry since 2014, first as a full-time developer and, since 2019, as a freelance contractor.
I build websites because I love delivering astonishing experiences to people who visit those websites. My preferred tech stack is HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript - preferably in its vanilla flavour.
I've been giving much of my work away, for free, for a long time now. It's gone from a lifestyle choice to - well - just the way I see life! In addition to my GitHub projects, I also give away my poetry, and my novels, for free: because words and stories cannot exist without an audience ... so why put gates and barriers in the way of letting the audience enjoy my work?
I don't expect the world to keep me in a comfortable lifestyle. But "every little helps", as they say. If you find my work useful, or enjoyable, please consider sponsoring me so that I can continue to do what I love, and share the results of that work with everyone - for free!
I want to spend a lot of time working on, developing - refining - the Scrawl-canvas library. For instance, I want to: make the library a bit lighter, and more efficient, so it works better on low-power devices. And a physics engine, to extend the library's reach into simpler 2d games. To do this, I need an income I can rely on without distracting me from the work. If you want to use accessible, responsive canvases in your project, then please consider sponsoring this work!
